MONO

Nestled in the landscape, sheltered by the slope, and accompanied by a stone wall, the house blends with its surroundings.

The green roof extends the meadow, as if the architecture had always been part of this place. From the outside, MONO remains understated. Inside, a light-flooded space opens up, where architecture, nature, and silence merge into a unified whole.

There is only one MONO.

Grounded in nature. Connected to yourself.

For those who value privacy. For lovers of timeless architecture. For anyone who considers the feeling of being the only guests the ultimate luxury. MONO is the art of being completely to yourself—while experiencing so much more.

The open orientation towards the north and south, combined with natural light that reshapes the space throughout the day, makes MONO a truly special experience. It is not the architecture that takes center stage, but the feeling of being part of the landscape..

How do I reach MONO?

Your comfortable journey by car

You can reach us easily and conveniently via the Brenner Motorway (A22):

Exit: Take the Brixen/Pustertal exit and follow the signs towards Bruneck/Pustertal. Through the Pustertal Valley: Drive along the Pustertal state road (SS49/E66) for approximately 30 kilometers to Bruneck.
Continuing to the Ahrntal Valley: At Bruneck, take the Bruneck-Ost exit and follow the signs for "Ahrntal." The road leads through several villages to St. Johann im Ahrntal.
The final stretch: Once in St. Johann, follow the signs to our chalet. You will see a sign on the left side of the road. Arrive and relax: You can conveniently park your car in the private covered parking area.

By train and bus

You can also enjoy a relaxed journey without a car.

Take the train to Bruneck. From the station, the regular bus service (line 450) will take you on to the Ahrntal valley and St. Johann. Upon request and by prior arrangement, we would be happy to organize a pick-up service for you—so that your holiday begins the moment you arrive.

Your retreat – amidst nature
St. Johann in the Ahrntal Valley combines an unspoiled mountain landscape with the tranquility of a special retreat. At the same time, you can easily reach numerous excursion destinations and hiking areas from here.
Bruneck is about 24 kilometers away, and the surrounding mountain and ski areas of the Ahrntal Valley can be reached in just 5–10 minutes.
This allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds: the peace and privacy of your chalet – and the diversity of South Tyrol right on your doorstep.

MONO Wellness Service – Hotel-style comfort in your own chalet

Enjoy the freedom and privacy of your own chalet – combined with the comforts of a hotel.

Upon request, we take care of your chalet daily: beds are made, trash is removed, and—by arrangement—towels and bed linen are changed.

Pricing for the MONO wellness service is available upon request.

Mindfulness doesn’t begin only at the chalet—it begins with your arrival.

You consciously cover the final 80 meters or so on foot. It is a short walk that creates space to leave the rhythm of everyday life behind, bringing you a little closer to tranquility, nature, and yourself with every step.

This philosophy extends into the chalet itself: we have deliberately chosen not to include a television. Instead of flickering images, you are greeted by the most beautiful facets of nature and precious time for the things often neglected in daily life—genuine conversations, mindful moments, and a conscious experience of the here and now.

Naturally, the access road leading right up to the chalet is available at any time for the convenient loading and unloading of your luggage.

A landscape worth preserving.

MONO is not a conventional chalet; it is an exclusive residence. It was born from the idea of letting the landscape take center stage—and creating a place that unites tradition, a sense of sanctuary, and timeless architecture.

Your place of power in South Tyrol

Mindful, grounded, and conscious—at MONO, you find inner peace and renewed strength. Nestled in the quiet of nature, far from the mainstream yet right in the midst of things, MONO is a place to arrive, take a deep breath, and let go.

Mindful in every aspect

From the first morning coffee to the evening fire, every detail at MONO has been carefully chosen. An open-plan kitchen, a private Finnish sauna, a bathtub beneath the starry sky, two bathrooms, and Wi-Fi that can be intentionally switched off create a space for tranquility, comfort, and undisturbed time together.

The first morning begins in a very relaxed way:

A lovingly filled breakfast basket is delivered directly to your chalet, ensuring a relaxed start to the day. If you would like to extend this experience, you can order additional breakfast baskets for subsequent days at any time for an extra charge.

Your hosts

Maria and Fabian

We love the tranquility of the mountains, the nature and beauty of the Ahrntal Valley, and the special moments that arise from them.

With Chalet MONO, we have created a place where nature, architecture, and tranquility come together in a unique way.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Architect Martin Gruber

Here, a vacation begins not with a view, but with a feeling.

The house does not sit *on* the slope; it is embedded *within* it - almost as if it had always been part of the landscape. Two natural stone walls run through the meadow, reminiscent of the old walls that have defined the countryside for generations. Between them, a sheltered space emerges - not a building clamoring for attention, but a space that fosters tranquility. Facing the valley, the house remains understated and private; the outside world stays at bay. Between the walls, a quiet interior opens up, embracing light, sky, and landscape without sacrificing its sense of sanctuary. Above the house, the meadow continues uninterrupted, just as it does across the rest of the slope; grass, wildflowers, and rainwater follow their natural course.

The architecture does not compete with nature but becomes part of it. At the heart of the home lies a soaring, glass-walled living area. From here, the gaze wanders across the landscape while one remains safely sheltered. Beyond lie the private retreats: bedroom, bathroom, sauna, and spaces for quiet reflection. Everything about this house follows a simple idea: less visibility creates more freedom; less architecture creates more space; less distraction creates more presence. This hideaway is not a place for seeing and being seen; it is a place for arriving. A place for those who seek peace, value intimacy, and wish to experience architecture as an integral part of the landscape. Suitable for up to seven guests - though perhaps most magical for two.
